Educational opportunity for students with disabilities
The issue of disabled people education is treated in a particular way at The Pedagogical Academy in Lodz. We implement the idea of integration in practice. Many disabled people (blind, hearing-impaired) who are exceptional specialists in their fields of expertise are among the full-time employees or lecturers cooperating with the Academy. We believe that such a solution is the best example for future teachers of how to collaborate and eliminate social barriers caused by disability.
At the moment, 67 disabled people study at WSP (when calculated in percent, the index is very high in comparison with other higher education institutions in Poland), among whom 13 suffer from hearing impairment.
Among only few in the country, we have introduced Polish sign language to the course offer. In the future, it will allow us to create an academic environment conducive to real integration with the hearing-impaired. Translation courses include practical classes, individual consultations, exams and administration of student affairs.
The university also offers postgraduate courses for teachers and individuals who wish to acquire new skills and broaden them as well as at the practitioners who want to build up on their professional experience and additional scientific knowledge, The Academy of Adulthood, e-learning as well as courses in English for Erasmus students.
